About Guy Whiteley

Guy Whiteley I am an avid wood turner and advanced amateur photographer. My photography is seen here; my lathe-work can be seen at http://www.Facebook.com/PensByGuy.

I was raised in northern New York State before joining the US Navy where I became drawn to the technical aspects of film photography. During my travels I learned composition techniques, developing, and printing from serious amateurs and professionals. I eventually became more interested in the artistic side of this hobby and continued to explore more creative aspects.

With a computer and software background, the advent of digital photography naturally gained my interest. Digital cameras have now replaced my old Nikon film cameras and Adobe Creative Cloud (Lightroom, Photoshop CC), Nik, On1, and Topaz software have replaced the darkroom.

I shoot with Nikon Z6ii, 2 Nikon D750s, one stock and one IR converted. Lenses are Nikon 18-70mm, 24-120mm, and 18-300mm VR zooms, Tamron 180mm macro, Nikon 50mm for portraits, Rokinon 12mm fisheye, Tokina 12-24mm wide angle, and a Tamron 150-600mm telephoto. Almost everything is shot through a polarizer or neutral density filter. I also use a Singh-Ray vari-ND and NiSi ND filters for long exposures. Pods and heads are by Manfrotto and flash is a Nikon Speedlight SB600. Bags are Domke F-2 and Pelican PCS2552G.

My interests focus (no pun intended) on the out-of-doors beauty of our world, both natural and man-made. I hope you enjoy viewing my images as much as I have enjoyed capturing them.

I called Maine home for about 30 years during and after my Navy career. I've since returned to my native New York and currently live in in the Buffalo area with my lovely wife and our cats.
